As the University’s consultation on proposed redundancies continues, a number of staff currently listed as “at risk” have recently been nominated for internal teaching awards.

Teaching nominations are typically submitted by students and recognise staff who have made a significant contribution to the student learning experience.
For those receiving them, the nominations reflect the impact their teaching or research supervision has had on students during the past academic year.
The timing, however, has not gone unnoticed.
Several colleagues who have received nominations are among those whose posts are currently included within redundancy proposals.
The situation highlights a striking contrast within the current consultation period: staff being recognised by students for the quality of their teaching while at the same time facing uncertainty about the future of their roles.
Teaching awards celebrate commitment, expertise and the contribution staff make to students’ learning.
For some nominees this year, that recognition arrives during a period when their continued place within the institution remains unclear.
As the consultation continues, many staff have also expressed their appreciation for the support shown by students in recent weeks. The student solidarity group has been particularly active in highlighting the value of staff contributions to teaching and student life.
That support has not gone unnoticed.
