Tomorrow, Wednesday 3rd June, UCU members at GCU begin strike action.
Staff do not take this action lightly. Over recent months, members have engaged seriously with consultation processes, submitted detailed alternatives, supported colleagues and continued to do their work with professionalism and care throughout an extremely difficult period.
Many members believe there is still a different path available to the University, one that protects jobs, supports students and avoids compulsory redundancies.
Tomorrow’s picket lines are about solidarity, visibility and collective action. They are a reminder that universities are communities built by the people who teach, research, support and sustain them every day.
Thank you to every member who has attended meetings, volunteered time, made posters, organised logistics, spoken to colleagues or prepared to stand on a picket line.
Whatever tomorrow brings, we stand together.
